Fire And Ice By Robert Frost

A poem about the End Of Days, when the world will end by either fire or ice. "Fire and Ice" is one of Robert Frost's most popular poems. It was first published in 1920 in Harper's Magazine. "Some say the world will end in fire, Some say in ice. From what I've tasted of desire I hold with those who favor fire. But if it had to perish twice, I think I know enough of hate To say that for destruction ice Is also great And would suffice."

Music By Bessie Rayner Parkes

Bessie Rayner Parkes lived from 1829-1925. She was an English feminist who became an editor of the Britain's first feminist magazine. This poem showcases how nature creates a concert for anyone who stops to listen. "Sweet melody amidst the moving spheres Breaks forth, a solemn and entrancing sound, A harmony whereof the earth's green hills Give but the faintest echo; yet is there A music everywhere, and concert sweet! All birds which sing amidst the forest deep Till the flowers listen with unfolded bells; All winds that murmur over summer grass, Or curl the waves upon the pebbly shore; Chiefly all earnest human voices rais'd In charity and for the cause of truth, Mingle together in one sacred chord, And float, a grateful incense, up to God.

Circus in Three Rings By Sylvia Plath

In the circus tent of a hurricane designed by a drunken god my extravagant heart blows up again in a rampage of champagne-colored rain and the fragments whir like a weather vane while the angels all applaud. Daring as death and debonair I invade my lion's den; a rose of jeopardy flames in my hair yet I flourish my whip with a fatal flair defending my perilous wounds with a chair while the gnawings of love begin. Mocking as Mephistopheles, eclipsed by magician's disguise, my demon of doom tilts on a trapeze, winged rabbits revolving about his knees, only to vanish with devilish ease in a smoke that sears my eyes.

Song About Old Troll - Lord of The Rings By J. R. R. Tolkien

J. R. R. Tolkien is famous for his fantasy novels The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings. This poem was sung by Sam Gamgee in The Lord of the Rings. Audio clips can be found of J. R. R. Tolkien singing this song himself. Troll sat alone on his seat of stone, And munched and mumbled a bare old bone; For many a year he had gnawed it near, For meat was hard to come by. Done by! Gum by! In a cave in the hills he dwelt alone, And meat was hard to come by. Up came Tom with his big boots on. Said he to Troll: "Pray, what is yon? For it looks like the shin o' my nuncle Tim, As should be a-lyin' in graveyard. Caveyard! Paveyard! This many a year has Tim been gone, And I thought he were lyin' in graveyard." "My lad," said Troll, "this bone I stole. But what be bones that lie in a hole? Thy nuncle was dead as a lump o' lead, Afore I found his shinbone. Tinbone! Thinbone! He can spare a share for a poor old troll, For he don't nee...

All The World's A Stage By William Shakespeare

William Shakespeare (1564-1616) is regarded by many as one of the greatest poets/playwrights in history. This poem is an excerpt from his play "As you like it" The poem compares the world to a stage and life to a play, and catalogs seven stages in a man's life: infant, schoolboy, lover, soldier, justice, pantaloon, and old age, facing imminent death. The poem suggests that each stage in a man's life calls upon him to play another role. All The World's A Stage "All the world's a stage, And all the men and women merely players: They have their exits and their entrances; And one man in his time plays many parts, His acts being seven ages. At first, the infant, Mewling and puking in the nurse's arms. And then the whining school-boy, with his satchel And shining morning face, creeping like snail Unwillingly to school. And then the lover, Sighing like furnace, with a woeful ballad Made to his mistress' eyebrow. Then a soldier, ...

Love After Love by Derek Walcott

Much of the inspiration for Derek Walcott's poetry comes from the history of Saint Lucia, where he was born. This poem has a theme of accepting yourself as you are. Before you can love others, you need to love yourself. Love After Love "The time will come when, with elation, you will greet yourself arriving at your own door, in your own mirror, and each will smile at the other's welcome, And say, sit here. Eat. You will love again the stranger who was yourself. Give wine. Give bread. Give back your heart to itself, to the stranger who has loved you all your life, whom you ignored for another, who knows you by heart. Take down the love letters from the bookshelf, the photographs, the desperate notes, peel your own image from the mirror. Sit. Feast on your life.

The Paradoxical Commandments By Kent M. Keith

This selection, entitled, "The Paradoxical Commandments", was written by Kent M. Keith in 1968 when he was a 19 year old Harvard Student. Since then, it has been quoted by millions and even mistakenly attributed to Mother Teresa who had a version hung as a poem on a wall in her Children's Home in Calcutta. The text contains 10 commandments. The theme and the paradox is to persevere in doing good for humanity and acting with integrity even if your efforts aren't appreciated. "People are illogical, unreasonable, and self- centered. Love them anyway. If you do good, people will accuse you of selfish ulterior motives. Do good anyway. If you are successful, you will win false friends and true enemies. Succeed anyway. The good you do today will be forgotten tomorrow. Do good anyway. Honesty and frankness make you vulnerable. Be honest and frank anyway. The biggest men and women with the biggest ideas can be shot down by the smallest men and...

Come Fly With Me

Walk with me along the path, And reach up towards the sky, I'll be right beside you, Through each new thing you try. And anytime you're ready, I'll give you wings to fly. If you've come upon some roadblocks, That you struggle to get through, Just know that I have gone ahead, To clear the path for you. And soon you'll find the place, That you have been walking too. Walk with me, talk with me, I'll hear each laugh and cry. I'll be your help in trouble, Your protector and ally, And anytime you're ready, I'll give you wings to fly.

A Friend

Poem About The Test Of Time Inspirational Poem about a friend who has passed the most important test of all, the test of time. A Friend I've never had a friend so dear A friend who's there to dry my tears Now that time has taken its toll You're still my friend while I grow old Years have brought about a change But I won't worry you're still the same People may walk away and leave but You're are here to share my grief As life goes on, I will praise you name, Because the love you have has never changed You've been my friend though thick and thin I glorify your name until the end No matter what others may think I'll yell, scream, and give you all the ranks Now I close my letter to you my friend But my heart is open please come on in I love you

What Was God Thinking

What Was God Thinking? Sometimes you have two friends who seem the opposite in every way yet they get along like two peas in a pod. What was God thinking when he decided to send you here? Didn't he know that you were meant for a heavenly palace full of sweet dreams? Not a world full of corruption, disaster, and disease You're too good for this place, and I fit perfectly I'm evil, you're pure, I ruin, you cure You say you're not perfect I say I'm no angel but... I guess we've found perfection in one another's soul Absolution in each others eyes And a kind assurance in one another's voices that we will always be there for each other What was God thinking when he decided to send you here? For whatever reason he had... I'm thankful we have each other.

The Perfect Friend

A description of the perfect friend A friend is someone we turn to when our spirits need a lift, A friend is someone we treasure for our friendship is a gift. A friend is someone who fills our lives with beauty, joy, and grace And makes the whole world we live in a better and happier place.

Walk On By

As we fall asleep images pass through our minds, that person that passed fleetingly through our life, could she be the one true love? As she walked on by You could see a glint in her eye It started with a smile And lasted awhile She told him of her dream wondering what it would mean Had she scared him away or would he stay He lay awake all night trying to fight, what seemed so right A simple txt, a nervous reply How could he deny True love, that walked on by

Life Long Fellowship

Friendships don't always take the usual form, you may be a friend to someone that you never even met. So many things shape what we become Minute to large influences add up to one sum Many individuals have touched our paths From the preachers who preached to our folks who gave baths And those parents must have shown us a lesson or two And our teachers often taught us the false and the true Even neighbors who helped with a requisite loan Or relatives we'd only met on the phone Without any we'd be somehow different today If still present we're thankful for the roles that they play But it's hard to believe you've touched someone the same They may not have known you or even your name But believe that we're significant in this brief life We help one another through lessons and strife There's hope and there's friendship with others who care We're never alone in these lives that we share So let fellowship grow among women and ...

Hold My Hand And Lean On Me

Hold my hands so I can lead you to a beautiful land A land where there's no more suffering, pain nor tears and there I'll know you'll be safe in that beautiful land Hold my hands tight as we soar in the sky to see what's ahead behind that beautiful light Hold my hands and don't let go Lean on me when you are not strong and I'll carry you all the way home Don't doubt when I am not around, instead close your eyes, because I am only a wish away. Teach me how to have strength like you Cause even when you are sick, I'll never know

Believ in Angels

Angels come in many forms even the form of a human. Read this poems Everyone should believe in angels They surround you everyday They help and protect you Love and care for you They try not to let you down But even angels make mistakes Do you believe is angels? I do I call them my friends They do all the things an angel should They make you laugh when you're sad Make you feel better when you're sick Stand up for you when you're tormented Love you when you feel as if no one does Doesn't that sound like an angel To me it does Everyone needs an angel At least one good one Or your life isn't complete And won't be Till you find your special angel.

By Your Side

Poem About What Friends Will Do For Each Other I wrote this poem after seeing this one picture. It had a guy, sitting down and looking down, and a girl sitting next to him. The guy was saying "I'm all alone", and the girl was saying "I'm here". The guy was completely unaware of the girls presence, as he wasn't looking up. This poem is from the girls perspective and how she feels. She must have felt so sad from being neglected day after day by the boy. But even though it was sad, she still would have stayed with him, until the very end. If you feel there's nothing else to do, If you think no-one's here for you, Turn your head and look at me, Because by your side, I'll always be. Through today, unto tomorrow, I'll help you get through this sorrow, Holding your hand, right by your side, Together we can spread our wings and fly. Away from this terrible place, To a land, where happiness, is all that we'll face, T...

Share Your Dreams

Share Your Dreams Poem It is scary to share your dreams with another. Will she respect and love them like you do, or will she laugh that you even dreamed daring dreams. Do you have the strength for friendship? Come with me and share your dreams we'll sit on clouds and float down streams we'll laugh together as we play and you'll tell me your dreams throughout the day come on now don't be shy you don't have to worry for we won't say goodbye take my hand we shall fly like a dove we don't have to come down, we'll forever float above I care about your thoughts and dreams I'd shine on you all the sun beams you don't have to lie to me, you don't have to be fake say whatever you want, I know its something I can take there are no rules with me, do what ever you want all day long the only thing I ask is that you tell me your dreams and be strong so come with me and share your dreams we'll sit on clouds and float down st...

Full Of Love

A heart once thought to be closed forever has been touched by an angel in the form of a mother and may never be the same. They never knew the hurt inside, I always tried to smile with pride, They don't know how I really feel, I never try to talk and heal, I always come across so tough, But in the end it's not enough, I never have been truly loved, That's when she came, Full of love, her arms open, Now without her it's not the same, She loves me so, Now I know, She's on my side, Our hearts to never divide. I love you mom.

Send Us An Angel

I was just having a bad day, and needed to talk to someone. I wished that if I had an angel, someone that was really special, that I could tell anything to, that was all I really needed. Ever mess up and can't fix your mistake Only have one friend, cause they're too hard to make Ever feel alone, by yourself in the world sit in bed at night as your brain starts to twirl ever been hurt so bad that you can't recover no one to talk to not a friend sister or brother all you got left to do is pray pray for a better way. cause when life gives you trouble, what can you do? pray that god sends an angel to you. cause if you had an angel to brighten your smile sit and talk to you once and a while imagine your problems disappear if only a friend would appear so pray, pray for a better way, it's all you got left to do pray God sends an angel to you.

I Will Be Here For You

When you're angry and frustrated, I will be here to calm you down. When you're hurt and in tears, I will be here to wipe them away and mend the pain. An Angel

An Angel For A Friend Some friends are so perfect for us that they are put into the category of angels. We know that they could only have been seen by God. I have the greatest friend on earth Sisters by God but not by birth I owe her a lot for all she has done for me Without her in my life I am not sure where I'd be We will be best friends forever until we die We have certain jokes that no one would understand but her and I Together we share our life story We look for good in others glory She is amazing every single day I admire and look up to her in every way She understands me and I don't have to explain She brings her sunshine to the rain Someone sent by god to do great things One of heaven's angels with no visible wings If you ever meet kamto  then you will see Why she is the definition of the greatest friend to me. Kamto, thanks for always being there for me You have shown me just how best friends should

My Darling

Poem For A Friend With Depression I wrote this poem for a partner of mine who went through a bad time with depression. My darling, My girl, Why are you so sad? Why can't you see that life is not all bad? You're my angel, Please don't cry, I don't understand, so please tell me why? Your beautiful face, Your fading smile, I vow to make you happy for more than just a while. You're so precious, Why can't you see? I beg you to break that chain, Then you'll be free. The past is gone, It's not going to change, But the future is yours... For you to arrange, Live your life, Be happy, don't cry, I'm here and now those tears can dry. I love you, my darling, Let go of the sorrow, Because I'm here for you.... Yesterday, today, and tomorrow.

Friends who are an Inspiration

People come into our life disguised as angels, and sometimes angels come into our life disguised as people. It is possible to see God anywhere. All it takes are open eyes and ears and the willingness to see miracles. They are everywhere. God is as available as we are. Having friends that inspire us to rise to higher and greater levels is an awesome gift. Surround yourself with people that inspire you to do better and inspire your friends as well. It is a profound truth that the people we spend time with shape the path that we travel.

HOPE IN THE SEASONS

I wrote this poem when I was in my darkest moment of my life. When I was writing it I realized that there is hope in everything, and writing this poem helped me through what I was going through.enjoy and leave a comments Hope is in the spring time, When the first bird of the year chirps. When the first bud opens, And the sweet perfume of flowers is in the air. Hope is in the summer time, When the sun shines bright in your eyes. When the lakes sparkle and shine under the sun, And when there's laughter in the air. Hope is in the fall time, When the leaves fall off the trees, And crunch under your feet when you walk on them. When birds fly away to find a warm place to stay. Hope is in the winter time, When a blanket of white covers everything. When everyone's happy and cheerful, And when you build forts, snowmen, and have snowball fights. Hope is in the seasons, When the first bird chirps, When the sun is bright in your eyes, When the leaves fall off th...

Hope Is Always There

There's always a moment in our lives, when nothing seems right, and everything's wrong, and we think we've lost hope. God knows I've had those moments, and it seems that it will never be alright again. But believe it or not, there's always hope, even if it's just a little flicker. Hold onto that flicker of hope. Leave your comments after reading In a sea of darkness Searching for the light But those who you once loved Have left you to deal; alone Ask for help, no one will come But most of all, don't you lost hope Hope is always there Even in the roughest moments Hope, I need you Hope, I want you You need something to hold onto Hope is gone... Is it really gone? The demon inside you, grows stronger every day We all have our demons Everybody suffers Everybody deals Everybody copes Everybody breaks Everybody hopes Everybody cries Don't you cry There's always hope Angels, where have you gone? Do not leave me here, alone ...

It Isn't What It Seems...

It Isn't What It Seems...By © Chanel Winslow It's a state of mind that I'm trying to find. I want it all to be mine. It's like finding tu voz por la primera vez (your voice for the first time). And I'm eager to learn more. Comes from within, but I really don't know how to explain it yet. That's why I can't let you in. Perfection is an essence to achieve, feels so good, can't be wrong. "Patience is a virtue," but we're starting to learn how to get along. This fire that's burning deep within, just won't let me go. But it must in order for me to grow. And I'm starting to see, that all I have to do is believe in me.

A Soldier Of Life

This poem holds great significance to me. It somewhat explains the battle of an "uneasy life" and the war between my thoughts and my emotions. It summarizes something I feel that I face every day and the determination to achieve happiness. If others can find it relatable and somewhat comforting to know that they're not alone, then I have achieved what I set out to do. If reading this poem, I'd appreciate your time and any given feedback. Thank you. Wounded and broken, But still we stand tall. No challenge too over-bearing, And no fear too consuming. For each day is a battle, One we do not always win, But our persistence is our courage. We fight with all that we have, And sometimes that is not enough, Yet still we continue in a battle With victory seeming impossible. Our determination and dreams of happiness Are not only our guidance, But also a dagger in our back, For it is the euphoric joy and brightness That we battle for. With each pass...

DaRK WORLD

This poem is about what I see with the world. This generation of kids has stopped caring and they have no love for the beauty and wonder of the world. They care about mindless stuff, they do stupid things. And this is the people we want to lead the future of the world? So I started a group with no name that is trying to help this generation out. Please ask if you want to know more about this poem or our cause. Enjoy it and leave your own story Who will be the sight, for the blind? who will be the voice, for the mute? who will be the sound, for the deaf? who will stand up, for those who can not stand? Who but us? The ones this world will be ran by, who will be the comfort, for the beaten? Who will be the light, in a world of darkness? Who will stand up, and make a change for the world, If we do not. Who I ask? Who will but us? No one will. The blind will not see, the mute will not speak, there will be no sound for the deaf, those who can not stand, w...

The Wind

Writer's Block It's about the attack that writer's block has on author's brains. I know I've suffered through it as well as many others. In fact, I'm suffering through it right now. Enjoy and leave your comments My thoughts lay printed on sheets of paper, Stored in the drawer of my mind. They are organized, neat, Nothing out of place. They can't be touched by outside strangers, Filled with dangers and cruel intentions. I'm the only one with the key, To this infinite drawer with ideas. But sometimes a foreign gust of wind comes, It rattles and shakes the knob to this drawer. Each day getting stronger and stronger, Closer and closer to freeing those papers. The enemy, the wind is a master of uncovering. Of daintily plucking out my papers Like dandelions on a vast field, To blow and disperse the seeds to unknown areas. It does it so discreetly, that I don't realize its actions Until that very last moment When the wind turns int...

My Life

This is a poem I wrote when I was thinking about my life, enjoy and make. Sure to leave a comment and share. The things I've seen will scar me for life, growing up I've seen wrong and very little of right, I hear a sad song and tears roll down my face, I look in the mirror and feel so out of place, I don't want to become something larger than life, I want to become something real and so right, do they understand am I understood, can life be better I wish that it could, before I make a decision I always think twice, they say what can I do to help you feel better I say nothing because this is my life

Changing Faces

Hi, I have always really loved writing and this is one of the poems I wrote about a story I read in a newspaper. It shows how life is hard and changes and many people lose their way in their path to find peace. Thank you and I hope you enjoy it. Under a democratic shield, Beneath the enticing charm, Lies an autocratic exterior, Revealing cursed ideas, cruelty and harm. In a coalescence of evil, Where the good man stands alone, And evil pierces a man's heart, His true integrity, never shown. And she, full of mesmerizing beauty, A dutiful, dependable dove, With a heart as the moist as the allure, Within the man who licked away her love. The letter she adored, As his plan began to mould, But she never glanced behind the curtains, Where the man watched beneath the subtle folds. Persuasion was her tactic, Persuasion was her key, As she strode off into the world, To find out what awaited thee. But the villain grew weary, His heart had lost its evil hilt, As ...

God Will Make A Way

This poem was a result of what was happening all around me. Almost as if overnight one could see how people's lives have changed and started to fall apart. Things were really starting to look bleak and dismal, driving me to my knees in search of God's help Society seems in a mess Mothers cry, while Fathers stress to be polite is a disgrace as children mock you to your face every day the papers show that crime and rape did upward go the things done in laboratories are stashed away in lavatories drugs and sex aren't hard to find it seems as if the worlds gone blind for what the people fail to see is messing up society as Dads no longer head their home and kids all sit, and chat by phone what once to all has been a home is looking like a war torn zone no longer do you find that kids are playing in the park for it's become a hideout place for gangsters after dark what once was right now seems so wrong no more joy and no more song as what this...

Endure Like a Tree

Poem About Enduring The Hardships You Face In Life I love my niece very much, but sadly, my sister took her to live far away. My heart breaks when I talk to her on the phone because she is going through a tough time, and I can't comfort her. I wrote this poem for her on her 10th birthday.  To get through life you have to endure as a tree does. When Mother Nature tries to bring you down, You will never fall; you will stand your ground. You will encounter burning flames. Yes, it will be painful and hard, But once it's over and done with, Your bark will grow back stronger than ever. When your leaves start to slowly leave, Never fret, there will be more to take their place. They'll come and go throughout your life, That's just how it is. From the time you're a seedling to the time you're mature, Your roots will always be there to support you. After many years, After enduring forest fires and changing leaves, Your own saplings will fall ...

As Is Life

Poem About Our Memories This poem was written in 2003 during a sad and stressful time in my life. I am sure many others from all walks of life can relate to the sentiments. It's strange the things you remember And the things you seem to forget It's a jamboree of all sorts A patchwork of joys and regrets You remember the days when you mess up The days when sadness brings tears But you forget all those small happy moments When it's laughter that brings you to tears If only we could be happy forever To look forward, not think of the past Our lives would be full of elation With sadness a ghost of the past  leave your story

LOST IN THE PAST

Poem About the Pain from Child Abuse I was abused as a child and now as an adult I still struggle with the hurt and never an acknowledgment from my abuser. My past keeps me in bondage and it's up to me to release the hurt and be able to move on. Searching for something that may never be known, mental disturbance turns a heart back to stone. Create memories alone in your head, holding you hostage as you lay in your bed. Fits of despair have blinded your sight, awaken to find you are losing the fight. Rays of sunlight lead the way, hurts from the past only keep you away. Deception has caused your faith to stray, simple gestures are life's way to say... Release the burden that's wanted your stay, crumble your thoughts and throw them away. Discover a strength to start a new page, no longer alone slipped from the cage. Bruised and broken you now can see a glimpse of hope that may set your free.  Leave your thoughts

Stay Alive

This poem is about a girl lost in society's judgmental views. Her friend sees this her friend introduces her to the Skeleton Clique, a place where she found that her insecurities will never define her, only make her stronger. When I look at you, What I see Is a girl who's scared Just to be Herself, True. Why is different So foreign to you? I've watched you struggle, Seen you cry, Stared at your face, Hope no longer in your eye. I'm trying to help. Just let me in. This kind of fight You cannot win. At least Not alone. Take my hand, And we'll go home. Don't let them say What they say. You're stronger than that, At least I know, anyway. It's going to be hard. Just don't give up. I've seen miracles Very close up.  Hope you are inspired viewers, leave. Your comments.

Tiny Shred Of Love

This poem is about my struggle with depression and a hope, that I will be able to leave all the grief behind and find happiness in the days to come. Floating, heart askew In the dark deep tunnel of nothing Claw with every cell of me Reach out for anger greed sorrow Not the alone gray empty Tiny shred of light I wait for, hope for A delusion there to help Hold my hand tighter Around the severing rope My only tie to the world A better life, twinkle dust Of joy, love, a home No more tears, aching soul For a touch to hold on Until then hope for, wait for The tiny shred of love.

In Spite of War

In Spite of War By Angela Morgan Angela Morgan lived during both of the World Wars. In this poem, Morgan shares that despite a devastating war raging on, everything in nature continued as if nothing was happening. The same can be true about our lives. Life continues even when terrible things happen, so this poem encourages us to look at the beauty around us rather than focus on the negative aspects of our lives. In spite of war, in spite of death, In spite of all man's sufferings, Something within me laughs and sings And I must praise with all my breath. In spite of war, in spite of hate Lilacs are blooming at my gate, Tulips are tripping down the path In spite of war, in spite of wrath. "Courage!" the morning-glory saith; "Rejoice!" the daisy murmureth, And just to live is so divine When pansies lift their eyes to mine. The clouds are romping with the sea, And flashing waves call back to me That naught is real but what is fair, Th...

Barter

Life has loveliness to sell, All beautiful and splendid things, Blue waves whitened on a cliff, Soaring fire that sways and sings, And children's faces looking up Holding wonder like a cup. Life has loveliness to sell, Music like a curve of gold, Scent of pine trees in the rain, Eyes that love you, arms that hold, And for your spirit's still delight, Holy thoughts that star the night. Spend all you have for loveliness, Buy it and never count the cost; For one white singing hour of peace Count many a year of strife well lost, And for a breath of ecstasy Give all you have been, or could be. Caged Bird

The free bird leaps on the back of the wind and floats downstream till the current ends and dips his wings in the orange sun rays and dares to claim the sky. But a bird that stalks down his narrow cage can seldom see through his bars of rage his wings are clipped and his feet are tied so he opens his throat to sing. The caged bird sings with fearful trill of the things unknown but longed for still and his tune is heard on the distant hill for the caged bird sings of freedom The free bird thinks of another breeze and the trade winds soft through the sighing trees and the fat worms waiting on a dawn-bright lawn and he names the sky his own. But a caged bird stands on the grave of dreams his shadow shouts on a nightmare scream his wings are clipped and his feet are tied so he opens his throat to sing The caged bird sings with a fearful trill of things unknown but longed for still and his tune is heard on the distant hill for the caged bird sings of fre...

The Eternal Riddle

Israel, my people, God's greatest riddle, Will thy solution Ever be told Fought - never conquered, Bent - never broken, Mortal - immortal, Youthful, though old. Egypt enslaved thee, Babylon crushed thee, Rome led thee captive, Homeless thy head. Where are those nations Mighty and fearsome Thou hast survived them, They are long dead. Nations keep coming, Nations keep going, Passing like shadows, Wiped off the earth. Thou an eternal Witness remainest, Watching their burial, Watching their birth. Pray, who revealed thee Heaven's great secret : Death and destruction, Thus to defy Suffering torture, Stake, inquisition - Prithee, who taught thee Never to die Ay, and who gave thee Faith, deep as ocean, Strong as the rock-hills, Fierce as the sun Hated and hunted, Ever thou wand'rest, Bearing a message : God is but one ! Pray, has thy saga Likewise an ending, As its beginning Glorious of old Israel, my people, God's greatest riddle,...

Hope Is The Thing With Feathers

"Hope" is the thing with feathers - That perches in the soul - And sings the tune without the words - And never stops - at all - And sweetest - in the Gale - is heard - And sore must be the storm - That could abash the little Bird That kept so many warm - I've heard it in the chillest land - And on the strangest Sea - Yet - never - in Extremity, It asked a crumb - of me.

Hold fast to dreams For if dreams die Life is a broken-winged bird That cannot fly. Hold fast to dreams For when dreams go Life is a barren field Frozen with snow.

The Charge Of The Light Brigade

Half a league, half a league, Half a league onward, All in the valley of Death Rode the six hundred. "Forward the Light Brigade! Charge for the guns!" he said. Into the valley of Death Rode the six hundred. Forward, the Light Brigade!" Was there a man dismay'd? Not tho' the soldier knew Some one had blunder'd. Theirs not to make reply, Theirs not to reason why, Theirs but to do and die. Into the valley of Death Rode the six hundred. Cannon to right of them, Cannon to left of them, Cannon in front of them Volley'd and thunder'd; Storm'd at with shot and shell, Boldly they rode and well, Into the jaws of Death, Into the mouth of hell Rode the six hundred. Flash'd all their sabres bare, Flash'd as they turn'd in air Sabring the gunners there, Charging an army, while All the world wonder'd. Plunged in the battery-smoke Right thro' the line they broke; Cossack and Russian Reel'd from the sabre-...

Invitctus

Invictus Out of the night that covers me, Black as the Pit from pole to pole, I thank whatever gods may be For my unconquerable soul. In the fell clutch of circumstance I have not winced nor cried aloud. Under the bludgeonings of chance My head is bloody, but unbowed. Beyond this place of wrath and tears Looms but the Horror of the shade, And yet the menace of the years Finds, and shall find, me unafraid. It matters not how strait the gate, How charged with punishments the scroll, I am the master of my fate: I am the captain of my soul.  SHARE OR LEAVE A COMMENT

The Invitations

The Invitation It doesn't interest me what you do for a living. I want to know what you ache for and if you dare to dream of meeting your heart's longing. It doesn't interest me how old you are. I want to know if you will risk looking like a fool for love for your dream for the adventure of being alive. It doesnt interest me what planets are squaring your moon... I want to know if you have touched the centre of your own sorrow if have been opened by life's betrayals or have become shrivelled and closed from fear of further pain. I want to know if you can sit with pain mine or your own without moving to hide it or fade it or fix it. I want to know if you can be with joy mine or your own if you can dance with wildness and let the ecstasy fill you to the tips of your fingers and toes without cautioning us to be careful to be realistic to remember the limitations of being human. It doesn't interest me if the story you are tell...

Human Family

Human Family I note the obvious differences in the human family. Some of us are serious, some thrive on comedy. Some declare their lives are lived as true profundity, and others claim they really live the real reality. The variety of our skin tones can confuse, bemuse, delight, brown and pink and beige and purple, tan and blue and white. I've sailed upon the seven seas and stopped in every land, I've seen the wonders of the world not yet one common man. I know ten thousand women called Jane and Mary Jane, but I've not seen any two who really were the same. Mirror twins are different although their features jibe, and lovers think quite different thoughts while lying side by side. We love and lose in China, we weep on England's moors, and laugh and moan in Guinea, and thrive on Spanish shores. We seek success in Finland, are born and die in Maine. In minor ways we differ, in major we're the same. I note the obvious differences betwee...

Phenomenal Woman

Pretty women wonder where my secret lies. I'm not cute or built to suit a fashion model's size But when I start to tell them, They think I'm telling lies. I say, It's in the reach of my arms The span of my hips, The stride of my step, The curl of my lips. I'm a woman Phenomenally. Phenomenal woman, That's me. I walk into a room Just as cool as you please, And to a man, The fellows stand or Fall down on their knees. Then they swarm around me, A hive of honey bees. I say, It's the fire in my eyes, And the flash of my teeth, The swing in my waist, And the joy in my feet. I'm a woman Phenomenally. Phenomenal woman, That's me. Men themselves have wondered What they see in me. They try so much But they can't touch My inner mystery. When I try to show them They say they still can't see. I say, It's in the arch of my back, The sun of my smile, The ride of my breasts, The grace of my style. I'm a woman...

Still I Rise

Still I Rise You may write me down in history With your bitter, twisted lies, You may tread me in the very dirt But still, like dust, I'll rise. Does my sassiness upset you? Why are you beset with gloom? 'Cause I walk like I've got oil wells Pumping in my living room. Just like moons and like suns, With the certainty of tides, Just like hopes springing high, Still I'll rise. Did you want to see me broken? Bowed head and lowered eyes? Shoulders falling down like teardrops. Weakened by my soulful cries. Does my haughtiness offend you? Don't you take it awful hard 'Cause I laugh like I've got gold mines Diggin' in my own back yard. You may shoot me with your words, You may cut me with your eyes, You may kill me with your hatefulness, But still, like air, I'll rise. Does my sexiness upset you? Does it come as a surprise That I dance like I've got diamonds At the meeting of my thighs? Out of the huts of history's sham...
